Wiring: It’s Better to Have It and Not Need It

One of the most common oversights when planning automated blinds is wiring. Even if you’re not ready to install your blinds right away, running the necessary cabling during first fix ensures your home is future-ready.
It’s far easier (and more cost-effective) to have the wiring in place before walls are plastered than to add it later. As we always say, when it comes to cable — it’s better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it!

If your project is already complete or you’re renovating an existing space where wiring isn’t possible, Lutron Palladiom Wire-Free blinds offer the perfect solution.

Allow Space for Recessed Blind Pockets

These pockets need to be ordered and installed before plastering, so your integrator and builder will need final measurements and specifications early on. Leaving the correct allowance ensures your blinds sit flush and hidden when open, maintaining those clean architectural lines.

Window Dimensions Determine Motor and Pocket Size

The width and height of your window directly determine the size and power of the blind motor. Larger windows will require stronger motors and, in turn, larger pockets or housings.
Discussing these details with your Lutron installer ahead of time ensures your chosen pocket size can accommodate the correct motor type, avoiding last-minute design compromises.

Surface Mounting and Top Treatments

If recessed installation isn’t possible, you can still achieve a beautiful finish with surface-mounted blinds or curtain tracks. Consider the aesthetic of your top treatment — options like fascia covers or pelmets can disguise the mechanism while complementing your interior design.

Mind the Details: Handles, Roll Direction, and Skirting

It’s the finer details that make all the difference.

• Handles and projections: If your window or door handles protrude, your blind may need to be reverse rolled(rolling down the room side of the tube rather than the window side) to prevent catching.
• Skirting boards: If you want your blind to come down as close to the wall as possible, check that your skirting won’t obstruct the path of the fabric. Planning this early saves frustration later.

Integrating with Lighting Control
