Bang & Olufsen turns 100!
100 years of Bang & Olufsen – and counting.
Since 1925 Bang & Olufsen has created iconic audio and home entertainment products to the highest standards of sound, craft and design.
In 1925, working out of a Danish farmhouse, Peter Bang and Svend Olufsen reinvented the radio, developing The Eliminator, the first mass-produced radio that could be plugged into the wall, without the need for a battery. A century later, that entrepreneurial spirit of innovation lives on in everything they do. It’s what drives them: to change how we all hear, see and feel the world.
“A never-failing will to create only the best … persistently to find new ways.”
– The Original Vision, 1925 Peter Bang and Svend Olufsen.
Moments That Defined a Century
Bang & Olufsen’s legacy is full of innovation, artistry, and moments that shaped the future of sound.
>One early milestone came in 1939, with the launch of the Beolit 39 — their first product to feature a Bakelite cabinet. At a time when most radios were made from wood, this bold design choice not only modernised home audio but Bang & Olufsen also marked the beginning of their unmistakable aesthetic: timeless design fused with technical excellence.
Another defining moment arrived in 1978, when Bang & Olufsen collaborated with the Museum of Modern Art in New York. The Beogram 4000 turntable was added to MoMA’s permanent collection — a rare honour that recognised it as both an engineering marvel and a work of art. To this day, B&O remains one of the few audio brands whose products are celebrated in art and design museums around the world.

Pioneers of the Active Speaker Revolution
In the 1990s, Bang & Olufsen once again led the way by pioneering the move from passive to active loudspeakers. Integrating amplifiers directly into the speakers allowed for cleaner design, precise tuning, and exceptional sound control — long before this became an industry standard. The launch of the BeoLab 8000 and later BeoLab 5 set new benchmarks for performance and aesthetics, proving that innovation could be as beautiful as it was powerful.
Today, every Bang & Olufsen product continues to build upon that legacy — combining craftsmanship, cutting-edge technology, and enduring design to create sound systems that are as iconic as they are immersive.
